Portfolio assessment is a powerful yet widely under-utilized method of Prior Learning Assessment (PLA). The portfolio option offers a unique opportunity for students with significant skills and knowledge gained through work, volunteering or service in the military to earn college credit, where other methods- such as standardized exams or evaluated training- may not be appropriate. Institutions face multiple challenges establishing and maintaining a rigorous portfolio assessment program. To offer an affordable and effective solution for colleges interested in providing portfolio assessment to their adult students, the Texas Association of Community Colleges (TACC) has partnered with the Council for Adult and Experiential Learning to offer LearningCounts portfolio assessment to TACC students at a dramatically reduced cost. LearningCounts provides the opportunity for adult students to earn college credit by creating portfolios aligning to courses from your catalog.
