About the Forum

The NTCCC Higher Education Technology Forum focuses on the efficient use of technology in higher education applications.

The Higher Education Technology Forum is useful for anyone who is implementing technology in the course of their daily work, or who is responsible for overseeing the application of technology in the workplace.

The Higher Education Technology Forum provides opportunity for participation as a

Subject Matter Expert (presenter, discussion board panelist),
Experienced participant (roundtable discussions, breakout sessions)
Beginner or novice.

Program Highlights

Keynote: Google Apps and Higher Education • Joe Carter, Executive Director Institutional Research and Strategic Planning, Cisco College

Joe Carter shares how Cisco College has used Google Apps to create a student retention survey and early alert system, conduct institutional effectiveness and assessment reporting, collect faculty and staff recommendations to the college executive council, collect and post online syllabi and CVs, provide faculty and staff access to student data, display a college performance dashboard, and offer online filtered search of college course offerings.

This keynote session provides background on Google Apps, outlines sample higher education applications, takes participants through the Google Apps erector set, explains how to build apps, provides resources to support the use of Google Apps, and provides a preview of Google’s future plans for Google Apps and Google Classroom.

Keynote: Open Educational Resources at Tarrant County College Southeast Campus: A Case Study • Jo Klemm, Director of Library Services, Tarrant County College Southeast Campus, Krista Robisheaux, Coordinator of Academic Support Services, Tarrant County College Southeast Campus, Pennie Boyett, Assistant Professor, English, Tarrant County College Southeast Campus

Jo Klemm, Krista Robisheaux, and Pennie Boyett share how Tarrant County College Southeast Campus has worked to reduce educational materials costs through Open Educational Resources (OER).

A faculty committee of 15 members representing 11 disciplines studied and promoted OER use. The library coordinates and supports professors using OERs. Together they identified and evaluated OER teaching, learning, and research materials in any medium that reside in the public domain or have been released under an open license that permits their free use and re-purposing by others.

In the Fall 2014 semester, 765 students were able to save $119,707, and those numbers have grown in Fall 2015.
